Unit Overview: part 2

About this UNit

Students will utilise to the Creative Process, which involves a cycle of research, analysis, exploration and experimentation with media, idea generation, reflection, idea development, reflection and realisation. Students will be begin to engage in it fully and authentically with this creative process before realising their creative goal of making an observational acrylic painting (of details of plants and flowers) on canvas. Students will also acquire skills in order to attempt all of the following tasks:

Foundations: observation and perception

• identify and illustrate concepts from direct observation, original sources, secondary sources and personal experiences

• understand and apply the elements of art, including line, shape colour, texture, form, space, and value, as the fundamentals of art in personal artworks using art vocabulary appropriately

• discuss the expressive properties of artworks such as appropriation, meaning, narrative, message, and symbol using art vocabulary accurately.

Creative expression

• create original artworks based on direct observations, original sources and personal experiences

• apply the art-making process to solve problems

• produce artworks, including drawings and paintings

Historical and Cultural Relevance

• explain the relationships that exist between societies and their art.

Critical Evaluation & Response

• create written or oral responses to artwork using appropriate art vocabulary

• develop a portfolio
